The Five Together Foundation

Supporting initiatives in Youth Leadership and Development, Services to Families in Need, and Preservation of American Democracy.

The Five Together Foundation was established in 2005, inspired by generous parents who believed in their children’s capacity to engage together with intentionality and help make the world a better place. When the Foundation began, five siblings — Josh, Laurie, Debbie, Rachel, and Jake — scrambled to balance their busy lives with learning how to operate a foundation and decide where to have impact in the world and the challenges it faces. Within months, when Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005, the family sprang into action, making several meaningful disaster relief contributions, including helping to rebuild and restock a library in New Orleans, and to a business loan program for businesses impacted by the disaster run by Jewish Family Services.

Serving Families

We invest in people who are suffering and struggling to meet the daily needs of food and housing insecurity, particularly for vulnerable children, in communities near and dear to us (primarily Maine, New York City, Philadelphia, San Diego, East Africa)

Empowering Youth

The FTF is convinced that investing in the young generation is crucial for a better future. They believe that by fostering positive interactions and experiences at an impressionable age, they can change the trajectory of young people's lives. They understand that by providing young people with the right support, resources, and guidance, they can help them reach their full potential and create a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

The organization is based on the Jewish tradition of Tikkun Olam and has served almost 1,500 individuals. ASYV offers a holistic education, including computer literacy and English-language learning, healthcare, mentorship opportunities, and community building projects.

Preserving Democracy

The FTF has been at the forefront of voter engagement and participation since 2020, with a strategy to increase the participation of low-propensity, low-information voters and combat voter suppression. They invested in a coordinated national effort and in community-based organizations in key states such as Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. In 2021, the foundation's efforts have shifted to combatting voter suppression and unfair redistricting efforts, as they believe that ensuring fair and inclusive elections is vital for a democratic society.
